Placement
Students are admitted to Iona Prep through results obtained on the Cooperative Entrance Examination and grade school recommendation. Iona Prep accepts students who score at and above the 50th percentile on this norm referenced test or the ISEE. Students are grouped by ability but it is not restrictive. For example, a student may take honors in English/Social Studies but not in Math/Science or vice versa. The term Regents refers to subjects that conclude in a New York State Board of Regents final examination. All Honors classes and STEP classes take appropriate Regents exams.
Superior Talent Enrichment Program (High Honors)
Fifteen per cent of each entering class score in the first decile on
the entrance exam. These students comprise our Superior Talent Enrichment Program which is an accelerated and advanced honors program for select students who have the opportunity to take five or more Advanced Placement courses for part of their curriculum. It is an intensive academic program that requires proficiency in Latin in addition to the study of a modern language. This group of students has consistently scored above 1300 on the
SAT I composite.
