With
a 100% college acceptance rate, Iona Prep is proud of its college
placement record.
Academic or merit-based scholarships, such as National Merit, National
Language Honor, and Con Edison Awards for scholastic and athletic
merit are awarded each year to Iona Prep students.
Each freshman is placed in the academic division appropriate to
his particular talents, strengths, and needs, based upon his performance
on the Cooperative Entrance Exam, previous academic experience,
and his grade school performance and recommendation.
The next three years offer the students challenging study in a core
curriculum of Religion, Mathematics, English, Science, Health, Physical
Education, Computer, Music, Foreign Language, Social Studies, and
Fine Arts.
Upon entering senior year, in addition to required courses in Religion,
English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, the student is
free to design his own elective courses in preparation for some
of the most prestigious colleges in the nation. The
STEP Program The
Superior Talent Enrichment Program (STEP) is limited to the top
30 incoming freshmen.
STEP, an interdisciplinary program, revolves around a core curriculum
of English, Social Studies, Religion, and Latin. Students in this
program complete 12-18 Advanced Placement (AP) college credits before
graduating from Iona Prep. Iona Prep goes beyond the requirements
of the New York Stare Board of Regents by requiring 3 years of Foreign
Languages, 4 years of science and math, and by offering advanced
courses in all subject areas.
Computers have become an integral part of learning through carefully
developed curricula guided by the ethical and the philosophical
standards of Iona Prep. Laptop computers are required and a wireless
network encourages learning across the curriculum and beyond the
classroom.
Students have the opportunity to pursue Regents, Honors, Accelerated,
and Advanced Placement Courses (college credit) based on ability,
performance, and teacher recommendations.
